Thank You, Fred Astaire Dance Studios!

English version follows at the end of the article.

The Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Mequon hosted a dance show to support Japan earthquake victims on Friday April 1st. The event was very successful raising over $6000! More than 73 local businesses donated items for a silent auction and raffle. Representatives from the Milwaukee Japanese Association (MJA) attended the event, collected donations and sold T-shirts created for the previous fundraiser.

Here is breakdown of fundraising for the April 1st event:

Silent Auction $4885.00
T-shirts 570.00
Raffle 625.00
Donations 395.19

Total Funds Raised: $6475.19

All proceeds will be donated to the victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami through the Japan Red Cross.

At the program, Jack represented MJA and made a thank-you speech to everyone who hosted and attended the event. Also, Miwa-san performed a beautiful foxtrot dance with her instructor, Nikolay Karchev.

At the silent auction, many of the items donated had winning bids that exceeded the market value. For example, a private coaching session with choreographer Eddie Appolinov sold at $300 when the market price was set at $200. Also, the Fred Astaire studio sold raffle tickets for $5 a piece during the event. They drew winning tickets at the end of the event. The raffle prizes were donated gift cards or other times from local stores and restaurants.

During the event, MJA members were encouraged by overwhelming support from everyone who attended. The attendees gave generous support and prayers for everyone affected by the disaster. It was a very touching event for all the MJA members who attended.

Fred Astaire Mequon was greatly assisted by the staff of the Fred Astaire studio in Brookfield. We want to thank the instructors and students from both studios for dedicating dance performances to this cause. We also need to thank all those that attended and donated so generously.
